Who we are

KANCO is a regional membership network of NGOs, CBOs, FBOs, Private Sector actors, Research and Learning Institutions as well as associate membership that includes individuals and International Non-Governmental Organizations involved in or that have interest in HIV& AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB) and other public health care concerns. Established in 1990, KANCO has over 1200 members, with implementing partners in Burundi, Seychelles, Mauritius, Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania and Zanzibar. KANCO is also in partnership with different regional and global advocacy networks such as ACTION and RESULTS.

Job summary

The Program Manager will be in charge of KANCO’s programs and support in their overall management, oversight, working closely with projects Managers and the Regional coordinators.

The main activities undertaken during the reporting period include participation in planning and

consultative meetings, perception survey on use of security forces data collection, facilitation of

County Steering Group (CSG) meetings, media capacity assessment in County, community

engagements and mapping of gender-based violence service providers

Duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing social strategic direction of the program.
  • Ensure quality delivery implementation of all aspects of an integrated response, combining information, sharing and risk reduction.
  • Oversee community development projects to ensure goals and objectives of the team are met.
  • Writing program funding proposals to guarantee uninterrupted delivery of services.
  • Managing a team with a diverse array of talents and responsibilities.
  • Manage and oversee the activities associated with supporting the provision of holistic care for vulnerable cases, survivors as well as referrals.
  • Working with communication team for specialized programming for women and children
  • Lead and support in psychosocial support and empowerment to offer safe space for women, girl child and adolescent.
  • Focus on parenting with a parenting component and provision of information, case management for women and children
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the management

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelors in social work, Development Studies, Social  Sciences,  other  related  discipline from recognized  Institution
  • Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 8 years managing similar community development project
  • Knowledge in VAC intervention, culture issues of similar context.
  • Line management or team leadership experience
  • strong skills in creating and maintaining project and program plans, including risks, actions, issues, dependencies
  • Highly efficient in resource planning and tasks assignment
  • Knowledge of benefits and dependency mapping, risk management and resource planning
  • Highly proficient IT skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS project
  • Line management or team leader experience
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills for reports and presentations
  • Diplomatic ability to influence others at all levels of the business
  • Strong and demonstrated ability to build lasting relationships with key stakeholders
  • Ability to competently mediate disagreements and negotiate agreeable resolutions
  • Experience of Program and project level financial management
  • Experience of defining and delivering benefits realization for projects and program
